Photographers working the objectivist tradition associated with Walker Evans typically trace their roots back to the Parisian photographer Eugene Atget.
Christopher Rauschenberg has undertaken a “re-photography” project with Atget's work. That is, he has carefully re-photographed the original Atget frames, but now in the present day. Re-photo projects like these—and there are several others—are provocative indices of physical transformation and cultural change.
