The National Institute of Information and Communications Technology in Japan recently announced a small digital cube that displays an object in three dimensions, as though the object is in the cube. The illustration on the right gives you a sense of the effect.
It's called the gCubik, and it will be shown at Siggraph 2008 in August. The current development model is rather small, but the potential is clear.
